1. Overview

Deadzone ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data. We operate the website at getdeadzone.io, the SMS-based AI service, and the dashboard at deadzone.app.

We collect the minimum data necessary to operate the Service. We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with advertisers.

2. Data We Collect

3. What We Do NOT Collect

• We do not collect GPS location from your device. All location data comes from what you type in your messages (e.g., "!w Moab UT").
• We do not store the full content of your SMS messages beyond the most recent 3 exchanges (6 messages) used for conversation context.
• We do not use cookies for tracking on our website. Any cookies are strictly functional (session management on the dashboard).
• We do not collect data from other apps on your device.

4. How We Use Your Data

• Operate the Service: process your queries, deliver responses, maintain conversation context
• Billing: manage subscriptions, track signal usage, process payments via Stripe
• Safety: deliver emergency contact alerts when you trigger !e SOS
• Service improvement: aggregate, anonymized usage statistics (which commands are used most, average response time, error rates)
• Communications: product updates, service announcements, billing notifications (with your consent for marketing emails)

5. Third-Party Services

We share data with the following third-party services solely to operate Deadzone:

• Anthropic (Claude AI): Your query text is sent to Anthropic's API for processing. Subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy. We use the API tier that does not use your data for model training.
• Telnyx: Your phone number and SMS messages pass through Telnyx for delivery. Subject to Telnyx's Privacy Policy.
• Stripe: Payment processing. We never see or store your full card number. Subject to Stripe's Privacy Policy.
• LocationIQ: Location strings are sent for geocoding. No personal data is included. Subject to LocationIQ's Privacy Policy.
• Resend: Email delivery for transactional and marketing communications. Subject to Resend's Privacy Policy.
• Backblaze B2: Encrypted database backups stored offsite. No user-accessible data is exposed.

We do not share data with advertisers, data brokers, or any parties not listed above.

6. Email Communications

We comply with CAN-SPAM. All marketing emails include a one-click unsubscribe link. Transactional emails (billing receipts, service alerts, password resets) are sent regardless of marketing preference. We process unsubscribe requests immediately.

Email addresses collected through the landing page waitlist are used solely for product launch announcements and updates. You may unsubscribe at any time.

7. SMS Communications

Deadzone is an SMS-based service. By texting your assigned Deadzone number, you consent to receive SMS responses to your queries. All SMS communication is user-initiated — we do not send unsolicited text messages.

• What we collect: Your phone number and the content of SMS messages you send to Deadzone. Phone numbers are used for account identification, message delivery, and service authentication.
• How we use SMS data: Message content is processed through our AI pipeline to generate responses. Conversation history (last 3 exchanges) is stored temporarily for context continuity and cleared when you send the !c command.
• Message frequency: You receive one SMS response per query you send. Message frequency varies based on your usage. We do not send marketing messages via SMS.
• Opting out: Text STOP to your Deadzone number at any time to stop receiving messages. Text HELP for support information.
• Third-party processing: SMS messages are transmitted via Telnyx (our SMS provider). Your phone number and message content pass through Telnyx's infrastructure for delivery. See Telnyx's Privacy Policy.
• No sharing: We do not sell, rent, or share your phone number or SMS content with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.
• Data rates: Message and data rates may apply depending on your wireless carrier and plan. Deadzone is not responsible for any charges from your wireless provider.

8. Data Security

We implement reasonable security measures including:

• Encrypted database backups
• HTTPS for all web traffic
• Webhook signature verification for SMS gateway
• Phone number-based access control for SMS queries
• Session tokens with 90-day expiry for dashboard access

No system is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data but we take reasonable steps to protect it.

9. Data Retention and Deletion

You may request deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us at privacy@getdeadzone.io. Upon receiving a verified deletion request, we will:

• Delete your user record, saved locations, trips, emergency contacts, and conversation history
• Remove your email from all marketing lists
• Retain anonymized usage metadata (signal counts, response times) for aggregate analytics
• Complete deletion within 30 days of the verified request

10. Children's Privacy

Deadzone is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe we have collected data from a minor, contact us immediately.

11. International Users

Deadzone is currently available in the United States only. Our servers are located in the United States. By using the Service, you consent to the transfer and processing of your data in the United States.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised.
